Tragic Head-On Collision in Rosemount Claims Two Lives
On Monday, October 14th, at approximately 3:30 p.m., deputies from the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office responded to a devastating two-vehicle head-on crash on County Road 46 (160th Street West) near Biscayne Avenue in the City of Rosemount.
According to a media release from the sheriff’s office, witnesses reported that a 2012 Ford Fusion, driven by 15-year-old David Rosas of Rosemount, was traveling east on County Road 46. In an attempt to pass a semi-truck, Rosas entered the westbound lane in a no-passing zone. As he did, witnesses saw an oncoming 2014 Lincoln MKX, driven by 81-year-old Dennis Dahlstrom from Champaign, Illinois, with 78-year-old Sandra Dahlstrom as a passenger, approaching approximately one-quarter of a mile away.
Authorities reported that both drivers swerved onto the north shoulder simultaneously, resulting in a collision. Tragically, both David Rosas and Dennis Dahlstrom sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. Sandra Dahlstrom, the passenger in the Lincoln, suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
“In this tragedy, several heroic citizens stopped to render aid to the victims before first responders arrived. We also thank those responding agencies who assisted in life-saving efforts, including the Rosemount Police Department, Rosemount Fire Department, Allina Health, and the Minnesota State Patrol,” stated the sheriff’s office.
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims involved in this heartbreaking incident.
This incident remains under investigation, with the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office leading the inquiry, assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol. No further information will be released at this time.
