Oak Ridge High School Shooting: false alarm results in Level 4 Lock Down, Oct. 18

Oak Ridge High School Lockdown Due to False Alarm: This afternoon, a malfunctioning Alertus Pendant triggered a false alarm at Oak Ridge High School, leading to a Level 4 lockdown. Quick action by School Resource Officer Larry Dowdell, Assistant Principal Russ Wise, and the Oak Ridge Police Department ensured that the alarm’s source was swiftly identified and determined to pose no threat.

To ensure the safety of everyone on campus, the Oak Ridge Police Department conducted a thorough room-by-room clearance of the building. Once the lockdown was lifted and the facility was deemed secure, students and staff were allowed to return to their fourth block classes as scheduled.

The defective pendant continued to trigger additional lockdowns until our Information Technology team successfully disabled it remotely. This issue led to several alarms sounding shortly after the “All Clear” announcement. Our Technology staff is currently investigating the cause of the pendant’s malfunction to prevent any further false alarms.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the faculty and students of Oak Ridge High School, as well as local law enforcement, for their swift and effective response to this false alarm. While the incident was undoubtedly unsettling for everyone involved, it brings reassurance that our students and staff are well-trained to follow necessary protocols in the event of a genuine threat.
