About Nick Restifo
Born and raised on the southeast edge of Cleveland in the 1950s, Nick Restifo developed a fervor for football at a young age. Although his parish school lacked a team, he found joy playing backyard football with friends. As he progressed, he joined Cleveland’s prominent team while attending Cathedral Latin High School. Nick majored in Spanish and continued his football career for all four years at John Carroll University.
After graduating in 1974, Nick was recruited to teach and coach at St. Joseph High School (now known as Villa Angela-St. Joseph). He often expressed gratitude for the great coaches who mentored him, such as Joe Perella at Cathedral Latin and Bill Gutbrod at St. Joe’s, where he honed his understanding of the game.
In 1981, Restifo joined Saint Ignatius High School, where he worked alongside his friend Chuck Kyle, who was also teaching and coaching. Kyle recalls the significance of his initial decision to accept the head coaching position, highlighting the supportive environment they created together.
