A tragic loss has struck the Harvard-Westlake School community in Los Angeles, as ninth-grader Benjamin Ellis, also known as Ben Elis, passed away this week from an apparent suicide after battling depression. Ben was a bright student and a dedicated volleyball player, remembered by many as a beloved son, brother, nephew, friend, and classmate. His sudden death has left the entire school community in shock and mourning.
The Brentwood resident was found deceased from a self-inflicted injury, as confirmed by a statement from his family. Ben’s passing is one of the recent student suicides at Harvard-Westlake, raising concerns among parents about the wellbeing of students at the prestigious institution. With tuition nearing $49,700, Harvard-Westlake is one of the most expensive schools in Los Angeles, and parents have voiced growing worries over student mental health in recent years.
