A 23-year-old man from Wheatley Heights tragically lost his life in a fatal accident on the New Jersey Turnpike while returning home from the Virginia State University Homecoming celebration. Donald Butler was pronounced dead at 11:35 PM on October 15, 2024.
Details of the Incident
According to a spokesperson for the New Jersey State Police, the collision took place in Westampton Township on the evening of October 15. Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 9:56 PM on the northbound side of the turnpike, near milepost 43.9. The accident occurred just south of Exit 5, which is the intersection with Burlington-Mount Holly Road.
Investigators revealed that Butler was driving a Mercedes-Benz E400 when he collided with the rear of a Freightliner tractor-trailer. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
