Jake Bradford Missing: 21 Year Old Victorian man, found dead and buried in South Gippsland region

Human Remains Found in Victoria Believed to Be Missing Rosebud Man

In a tragic development, human remains believed to belong to a missing young man have been discovered in remote woodland in Victoria’s South Gippsland region, coinciding with what would have been his 23rd birthday.

Jake Bradford, a resident of the beachside community of Rosebud on the Mornington Peninsula, was reported missing by his mother on January 29, 2023. Investigators suspect that the then-21-year-old may have been involved in a fight in the Dollar area prior to his disappearance. The discovery of Bradford’s remains, nearly 18 months after he went missing, offers hope for closure to a family whose grief remains “as raw as ever.”

On Tuesday, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the remains were found in the rural wilderness off Dollar-Woorarra West Road. “Detectives from the Missing Persons Squad, Major Crime Scene Unit, and specialists from the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine were dispatched to the site this morning,” stated a release from Victoria Police.

“The coroner has been notified, and a postmortem examination will take place in due course,” confirmed Detective Acting Superintendent Mark Burnett of the Serious Crime Division. He emphasized that the Missing Persons Squad has tirelessly pursued every investigative lead to provide answers for Jake’s family.

“Our heartfelt thoughts are with Jake’s family and friends today, on what would have been Jake’s 23rd birthday,” remarked his father. “We understand this has been a tremendously difficult time for them. We pray that this discovery provides them with the closure they need and allows Jake to be laid to rest. The past eighteen months have been incredibly challenging, and their grief is still as acute as ever.”
