Janie Grace Moss Obituary, Death: The Goodpasture Christian School community is mourning the tragic loss of Janie Grace Moss, a talented senior and cross-country runner, who passed away on Wednesday morning following complications from a medical emergency.
Moss collapsed during a routine run on Sunday at Wright Park. Despite emergency efforts, her life was cut short due to a medical condition that led to cerebral edema, or swelling of the brain. She was life-flighted to Centennial Hospital, where she was placed on life support before succumbing to her condition.
The heartbreaking news of Moss’s passing was shared by Goodpasture Christian School on social media, prompting an outpouring of heartfelt tributes from those who knew and loved her. Jim Carter, the school’s athletic director, confirmed her death to The Tennessean, emphasizing the deep sense of loss felt by the entire school community. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to support Moss’s family, detailing the tragic series of events that unfolded.
According to the GoFundMe page, Moss had been in critical condition since collapsing and underwent life-saving measures before ultimately experiencing cerebral edema.
Beyond her accomplishments in cross country, Moss was also a dedicated member of Goodpasture’s cheer and swim teams, showcasing her commitment to the school and her athletic pursuits. Her involvement in multiple sports reflected her strong work ethic, leadership, and spirit of teamwork—qualities that endeared her to her peers and coaches.
In the wake of her hospitalization, a prayer vigil was held on Monday evening at Goodpasture’s W.F. Ruhl Arts Center, where friends, classmates, and community members gathered to pray for her recovery.
Following her passing, Goodpasture’s athletic department expressed their grief in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter). “It is with great sadness we share that GCS senior Janie Grace Moss passed away this morning,” the message read. “We are so thankful for the person she was in this world.”
