Keyona Willis of Columbus, Ohio, Passes Away After Battle with Cancer
Keyona Willis, a beloved member of Opera Columbus, has sadly passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on October 11. The announcement of her death has been widely shared on various Facebook pages, where friends and admirers have expressed heartfelt condolences and shared fond memories of her life. Her passing has left her family and many others heartbroken, as she will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her. Community Mourns Keyona’s Passing
The community is mourning the loss of this remarkable individual. T.J. Gerckens, a fellow educator, expressed, “We have lost Keyona Willis, a wonderful human being, talented vocalist, and teacher/mentor extraordinaire to cancer. She has been inspirational to so many of our students and faculty/staff. In addition to her wonderful teaching and singing skills, she connected with our students on a deeply human level.”
Destiny Coleman, who met Keyona during her time at Ohio State, shared, “She was such a beautiful soul, inside and out. I’ll never forget the first time I heard her sing—it was breathtaking, like nothing I had ever experienced before.”
Opera Columbus released a heartfelt statement saying, “It is with heavy hearts that we share the untimely passing of our friend Keyona Willis, a beloved artist and cherished member of the Opera Columbus family. Her incredible talent, warmth, and unwavering spirit left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed.”
