The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office has concluded its search for human remains in a field located south of Cheyenne, after a construction worker made a grim discovery earlier this week. The remains, found on Monday, have prompted a complex investigation, and authorities are now working to identify the decedent.

On Monday, a construction worker mowing a field near Terry Road stumbled upon what appeared to be human remains. The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office responded immediately, initiating a thorough search of the area. Over the next two days, around 50 officials meticulously combed the field in grid patterns to ensure that no additional body parts or evidence were missed.
Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Aaron Veldheer confirmed the completion of the search on Thursday. “We have wrapped (the search) up,” Veldheer told Cowboy State Daily, adding that authorities worked diligently through Tuesday to recover as much as possible. “All that we could find” of the body has been collected, and the remains are now in the custody of the Laramie County Coroner’s Office.
Ongoing Identification Process
The remains are currently undergoing analysis by a forensic anthropologist, in collaboration with the coroner, to determine the identity of the deceased. While it is unclear how long this process will take, Veldheer emphasized that the investigation team is prepared to “patiently wait” for the results. Key evidence, such as dental records, previous injuries, and other forensic clues, will be critical in identifying the individual.
Further details regarding the person’s age, sex, or the length of time the remains were in the field will remain undisclosed until the investigation is further along.
